Longleat to celebrate 50th anniversary with hot air balloons

Longleat Safari Park is planning a special event to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Hot air balloon rides in Bath, and the surrounding area, are hardly rare, as the city has a rich history of hot air balloon rides. However, the balloons that are set to take to the skies as part of Longleat’s celebrations are set to be much different than those usually spotted in the Wiltshire skies.

To ensure its half-century celebrations go off with a bang, Longleat will launch its very own ‘sky safari’ consisting of 50 balloons – one for each year the park has been operating. These balloons will take the shape of various animals, including lions and penguins.

The planned ‘sky safari’, which is set to take place over three days starting on September 16th, will be the latest in several anniversary celebrations. These have been taking place throughout the year at the park.

One of the highlights of the event is set to be a night glow – an event in which lighted hot air balloons take to the night skies, putting on a colourful display of light in the darkness. This is scheduled for Saturday 17th September and will see balloon pilots light their burners in time to live music.

The stars of the show will be the many animal themed balloons, including a pair of penguins, who will be making their one and only appearance in the UK this year, at the event.

Longleat Annual Pass holders will be able to get a sneak peak of the hot air ballooning action, with a special event held exclusively for them on September 15th.
