Whether or not you’re a person who is normally captivated by the design and construction of bridges, a hot air ballooning experience in Bath will enable you to see the bridges of Bath in a completely new and fascinating way.

Perhaps the most notable bridge in Bath is the Putney Bridge. Designed by Robert Adam, it was completed in 1774 to connect the city with the Georgian town of Bathwick. It is one of the few bridges in the world that have shops built on them.

Victoria Bridge is a double cantilever suspension bridge which is 150 feet long and supported by chains that are slung from stone towers. It was built in 1836 and designed by James Dredge, who was a brewer who wanted a bridge to carry beer from his nearby premises without needing to use the ferry.

The Avoncliff Aqueduct was built between 1797 and 1801 to carry the Kennet and Avon Canal over the River Avon. Designed by John Rennie and measuring 110 yards in length, it contains three arches and wing walls that carry the water. The central span of the aqueduct sagged soon after construction and has been repaired many times. In 1980, restoration work made sure that the structure is watertight.

When you go on a hot air ballooning experience in Bath, depending on the wind direction, you will be able to see many interesting examples of bridge design in the Bath area.
