Things to see in the City of Bath and beyond

Bath is one of Britain’s main tourist destinations. The most popular attractions on the city include the Royal Crescents, the 2,000-year-old Roman Baths, the Pulteney Bridge and Bath Abbey.

There is also plenty to see within a few miles of Bath. Stonehenge is 38 miles away and features the ancient stone circle that was erected between 3,000BC and 1,600 BC.

Longleat, 18 miles from the city, has a large animal safari park and the impressive Longleat House, while Bristol, a mere 13 miles away, has a rich maritime history. The SS Britain is moored there and the Clifton Suspension Bridge is a must-see.

One of the best preserved former coal-mining towns is Radstock, 11 miles from Bath. The Radstock Museum is dedicated to mining history.

Glastonbury, aside from its festival reputation, is associated with many myths connected to King Arthur. Glastonbury Tor has magnificent views and is only 28 miles from Bath.

Castle Combe, 17 miles from Bath, is a picturesque Cotswold village, and the Castle Combe racing circuit is situated in the area. The stunning Cheddar Gorge, 32 miles from Bath, is Britain’s largest gorge and also home of the famous Cheddar cheese.

A hot air ballooning experience in or around Bath is the most exhilarating way to see the area. A balloon flight is something of a mystery tour, as the particular attractions that you will see from the air are dependent on the direction of the wind.
