A hot air ballooning event is set to take place in Durham later this year, as the Balloons InDurham fiesta is confirmed as returning for another year.

Event organisers the Durham BID (Business Improvement District) made the announcement, revealing that the festival is set to take place between Friday, May 25th and Monday, May 28th, which is the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.

The inaugural event took place in 2017 and saw more than 20,000 people flock to the city to see the hot air balloon launches and the night glow. The event did have some weather issues, with high winds causing some of the balloon launches having to be cancelled.

The 2018 event will be taking place across a variety of locations within Durham, and will see an array of hot air balloons taking off in both the early mornings and later on in the evenings from East Durham College’s Houghall Campus.

Adam Deathe, of Durham BID, has said that the team have learned a lot from last year’s festival and the feedback they received from it, and will be doing everything they can to make this year’s Balloons InDurham festival bigger and better than before.

Tethered balloon rides will also be on offer to the public at Palace Green, next to the Cathedral alongside a host of other family-friendly activities.

Balloons InDurham is just one of many ballooning events taking place across the country this year. Furthermore, people can also book to have their own hot air balloon rides in Bristol, Gloucester and many other locations in the UK.
