Novelty hot air balloons shaped like bulldogs, and bizarrely yoghurt pots, proved to be extremely popular attractions at Nottingham’s new festival – The Tunes and Balloons Fiesta – which took place on 27-29th May this year, for the first time.

Throngs of families turned up at the Forest Recreation Ground, in order to participate in the festival which as the name would suggest, combined hot air balloons with music.

A number of musical tribute acts performed at the popular event, including takes on Rhianna, Katy Perry and Beyoncé. There were also a number of attractions to keep children entertained, including a scary ghost train, along with trade stalls, and of course, hot air balloon spectacles.

The event’s organiser, Bert Holland, told the Nottingham Post that over 1,500 people attended the event on the Friday evening alone, with the same number turning up by 3pm the next day. He said:

“I’d visited an event like this with my family in Birmingham last year and I thought it would be nice to bring it here. It’s a proper family event. We have lots of hot air balloons, live entertainment and fun fair rides to keep everyone happy throughout the day.”

Of course, you do not have to wait for a festival like this to come around if you want to discover the joys of hot air ballooning for yourself. Hot air balloon rides in Bristol, and many other places across the UK, are readily available for a large chunk of the year and make for an exciting activity for all the family.
