The world renowned Bristol International Balloon Fiesta will be hosted for the 40th time during 2018, with organisers promising to make this year’s anniversary edition something special.
The hot air balloon festival takes place on an annual basis at the Ashton Court Estate and regularly draws in huge crowds who want to see hundreds of balloons taking to the English skies. The 2017 edition saw thousands flock to the city to see 200 balloons take flight.
In order to celebrate the 40th Balloon Fiesta, the organisers want to bring something remarkable to the event and are hoping to pull out all the stops to make it a memorable year. As well as mass ascensions, night glows will be scheduled for the evenings, where balloons are lit as part of a musical performance.
Details of the event’s other special displays, balloons and other entertainment are still under wraps and are set to be announced in the build up to the event. The four-day festival will be returning to Bristol on Thursday, August 9, 2018 and is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to the area.
The first Bristol International Balloon Fiesta took place in September 1979, with 27 balloons participating. The event has since grown to be Europe’s largest annual balloon festival, as well as being one of the UK’s biggest outdoor events.
As hot air ballooning becomes more popular, people in the UK are organising their own hot air balloon rides in Bristol, Gloucester and all over the country to experience the spectacular views from the skies.
