Gloucester residents were treated to a taste of hot air ballooning movie magic last week, as filming for the new Amazon movie unfolded above their heads.
Movie stars Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones – who recently worked together in the Stephen Hawking biopic ‘The Theory of Everything’ – took to the skies for the new Amazon film ‘The Aeronauts’. Their new film sees them in an action adventure trying to make scientific discoveries while exploring the world by hot air balloon.
Set to be released in 2019, locals were treated to a sneak preview as apparently Redmayne and Jones performed all their own stunts on their hot air balloon adventure. People took to Twitter to document dramatic photos of the filming online. The 19th-Century style balloon caused a lot of intrigue, and certainly makes for an interesting way to put Gloucester on the movie-making map!
Recently, episodes of Poldark have been filmed in the area and scenes from Philip Pullman’s epic ‘His Dark Materials’ trilogy have featured the region as a magnificent backdrop to these otherworldly tales. Other period dramas filmed here include Tudor epic ‘Wolf Hall’ and scenes for Sherlock.
People keen to get their own taste of adventure in the skies can book their hot air balloon experience in Gloucester, Bristol, Bath and other parts of the South West of the UK. Soaring above the skyline and across rolling countryside, it’s not difficult to understand why hot air balloons make for such an epic adventure.
