For decades, hot air balloon enthusiasts from Gloucester have had to satisfy themselves with the ballooning bonanza that Bristol hosts each August. However, next month sees the inaugural Cheltenham Balloon Fiesta unfold over a weekend that locals hope will be sunny and fun-filled.
The Cheltenham Racecourse plays host to what promises to be an exciting family event. Visitors can expect to be treated to a firework display and night glow on the Saturday night. Local kite artists are planning a kite display to wow the crowds.
For those feeling adventurous, a hot air balloon flight over Gloucester might be on the cards. For those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, circus performers, jousting knights, and gravity-defying acrobatics are sure to take their breath away in quite a different way.
Younger children will be delighted by face painting and magic sand, whilst older ones will be amazed by stunt artists showing off their best moves.
Over 30 balloons are expected to take part in this new fiesta which is sure to become a friendly rival to the more established ballooning events that take place in nearby Bristol and Weston-Super-Mare.
