This month saw the announcement of the Lord Mayor’s Hot Air Balloon Regatta, which will see an array of balloons take to the skies over the iconic skyline of the capital.
The Lord Mayor’s Hot Air Balloon Regatta is part of the Lord Mayor’s show and offers onlookers the chance to marvel at the grace and splendour of hot air balloons as they float across the capital, and there are approximately 50 hot air balloons expected to participate this year.
Various dates in the summer have been provisionally booked for the Regatta to take place, as hot air ballooning is so reliant on appropriate weather conditions. Balloons will depart from Battersea Park at dawn and will fly across the sky throughout the morning to make the most of what are hoped to be ideal flying conditions.
In previous years, the Regatta has been cancelled because of bad weather. However, this year, organisers hope it will be bigger and better than ever. The event is intended to raise money for local charities as part of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal. The event raises money through corporate sponsorship, and this is used to help improve the local community.
Ballooning in London offers people the opportunity to gain a different perspective on well-known landmarks. Watching a sky that is dotted with balloons is also a special sight. Beyond the capital, we offer hot air balloon flights in South Wales, as well as in Bath and Bristol.
