Classic balloons to return to Bristol

A number of iconic hot air balloons that have flown at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta in the past are set to return to the event once again this year to help mark the 40th anniversary of the ballooning festival.

Some of the usual modern-day favourites will be appearing at the Fiesta, including Longleat Safari Park’s lion balloon, Simbaloo and the Belvoir balloon. These will be joined by balloons that haven’t made appearances at the event in years, such as the iconic Bertie Bassett balloon, which has not featured in the Bristol display since 2003. Superbike, the Peanut Man and a giant cake balloon will also be attending to mark the anniversary.

The first edition of the event took place in 1979 and was founded by Don Cameron, who is still the chairperson of the event today. It featured a total of 27 hot air balloons and has since become the largest event of its kind in Europe. Furthermore, it has also become of the top outdoor events to take place in the UK, making a substantial contribution to the local economy.

This year’s edition of the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is scheduled for the 9th-12th August at the Ashton Court Estate and is set to be one of the best ever to celebrate this iconic landmark for the event. Mass ascents and night glows continue to headline the Fiesta as these are the event highlights for spectators.

Attendees can also mark the occasion by booking their own hot air balloon ride in Bristol and experience some of the same sights as the pilots will see during the Fiesta.
