With Easter just around the corner, this year why not try an Easter hunt with a difference? Except this time, rather than hunting for eggs, why not take to the skies to hunt for Bath’s most spectacular attractions from the sky?
For this Easter outing with a difference, your hot air balloon will depart from the leafy splendour of the Royal Victoria Park in front of Bath’s iconic Royal Crescent. This spectacular façade of buildings has been delighting visitors to Bath since they were created by architect John Wood in 1774. From the skies, this perfect curve of houses is even more impressive.
Other gems to look out for on your Easter flight include Bath Abbey, which was founded in the 7th century, but developed between the 10th and 16th Centuries, to be finally restored in the 1860. As such, this impressive building features elements of Gothic architecture and Victorian touches. Its vast vaulted roof dominates the east of the city and overlooks the river, where you will come across another of Bath’s landmarks; the Pulteney Bridge which crosses the River Avon. This remarkable structure was built in 1774. As you soar over it, you will see the picturesque shops that line both sides of the bridge; a design that has remained practically unchanged for hundreds of years.
The Easter period was associated with Pagan rituals in the pre-modern era, so it is perhaps fitting that on a clear day, you might be able to spot the ancient standing stones at Avebury. These three stone circles date from the third millennium BCE and are thought to have been used in Pagan rituals. Further south, the world-famous Stonehenge continues to attract visitors, and from the sky, you will be at a unique vantage point to see these mysterious structures.
Discovering the delights of Bath from the skies at Easter is a wonderful way to spend time with family or friends. Balloons can accommodate groups of up to 16. Everyone over the age of seven is welcome on our trips.
