Couples take to the skies to give wedding vows

Newlywed couples take off in Nanjing, capital of East China’s Jiangsu province

50 adventure-seeking Chinese couples floated into the sky in order to get married in a mass hot air balloon wedding ceremony.

The 100 thrill-seekers took to the skies above the Jiangsu Province in hot air balloons of many colours, and were pictured taking selfies and waving at spectators before landing and running down the street, holding hands, in celebration of their nuptials.

Group weddings have become much more popular in China over the past 12 months, and while many people choose to have these group ceremonies in more traditional settings, such as in churches or by the seaside, there are a growing number of people who are looking for new and exciting ways to elevate their weddings to the next level.

Other examples of mass weddings in China, in recent months, include a wedding which saw 115 couples get married at Nanjing University, as part of the institute’s 114th anniversary, and another ceremony in which couples were wed on a Chinese warship – most of whom were staff unable to take time away from their duties to get married in other settings.

All of the hot air balloons involved in the ceremony took off together and there were no problems with any of the individual balloons once in the sky, meaning that all of the couples involved were able to get married without a hitch.

Anyone thinking of following in these couples’ footsteps may find hot air balloon rides in South Wales the ideal setting to say ‘I do’.
