Essential items to consider when preparing for a balloon ride

If you are embarking on a hot air balloon ride, there are some items that you should be sure to bring along to ensure that the experience is a comfortable and unforgettable one. Here is our list of essential items to consider bringing along on your trip:

Warm clothing

The British weather is so changeable that it is a good idea to take some warm clothes, even if the weather looks great when you set off. You also need to bear in mind that the weather is going to be much chillier at higher altitudes, so packing a warm coat – and any other warm clothing you think you could use, such as hats, gloves and scarves, depending on the conditions – is going to make your hot air balloon ride much more comfortable.

Sun protection

It is also a good idea to bring a sun hat and sunscreen, especially if you are flying in the summer months. You will be up in the air, which means that you will be much more exposed to the elements, so this really is of considerable importance.

Comfy shoes

A good pair of sensible, comfy shoes is a must for any balloon journey. You will be standing on your feet in the balloon’s basket for the duration of your time in the air, so you do not want to be stuck in uncomfortable shoes which pinch and cause irritation. This will make what should be a fantastic experience a painful one, so try to wear training shoes or comfy flats if possible.

Binoculars

The main reason that most people embark on a hot air balloon ride is for the experience of seeing the area from above. Although it is possible to have a great time taking in the sights and sounds without binoculars, the views of the surrounding countryside are much more spectacular when you have a pair of binoculars on hand to really focus on them.

Camera

Although it is not strictly essential, bringing a camera along to document your hot air balloon ride, and the spectacular aerial views you encounter, certainly enhances the experience and ensures that you always have some mementos of your journey to look back on. Any camera will do, but if you do have a high quality camera available to you, you should definitely consider bringing it with you. If you do, it is a good idea to also bring a padded camera case to protect your equipment.

Batteries and memory cards

You will probably want to bring spare batteries for your camera or phone, along with memory cards, as it is often the case that passengers take many more pictures than they thought they would, and this will help you to avoid disappointment.

As you can see, there are not too many items that are essential to a hot air balloon flight, but it is a good idea to consider taking the above. If you have any questions about suitability of items, you should talk to the balloon company before your journey.
