If you are searching for a unique gift to give your friends and family this festive season, then look no further than one of our great value, easy-to-use Christmas gift vouchers for a flight over the eclectic city of Bristol.

Bristol: the home of British hot air ballooning

Known as the ballooning capital of the UK, Bristol hosts the annual Bristol Balloon Fiesta each summer. As a result, our Bristol-based hot air balloon company knows a thing or two about how to explore one of the UK’s most vibrant cities.

Nestled to the south of the River Severn, the city of Bristol is carved out of limestone gorges along the River Avon. Your Bristolian ballooning adventure starts from the elegant parklands of Ashton Court Estate. The 17th Century Ashton Court Mansion – a resplendent mix of architectural styles – provides a stunning background as your balloon begins its ascent.

To the north, you see Isambard Brunel’s iconic 19th-Century suspension bridge spanning the Avon Gorge. This limestone and sandstone natural wonder is steeped in folklore and ancient history. Three Iron Age forts line the gorge, and might be seen as you pass over it. Will you also see the remains of the mythological giants who are said to have constructed the gorge?

Urban explorations

As your trip takes you over the city you will see the revitalised docks with their impressive ships, including the 19th Century SS Brunel, and floating harbour. Further afield, Cabot Tower stands at 32 meters high and dominates the verdant Brandon Hill.

Bristol’s historic Cathedral, and the awesome spires of St Mary Redcliffe Church, are perhaps at their most impressive when viewed from the skies. On Clifton Down, the Clifton Observatory – a reclaimed mill – is also an unusual building to explore by balloon. Hiding its own secret cave, it contributes to the mystique and magic of this city.

Impressive vistas

Beyond the city, your ballooning adventure might take you towards the north – affording spectacular views of South Wales on a clear day – or to the Mendips in the south. Here, the Cheddar Gorges, or perhaps the Glastonbury Tor, might pop into view on the horizon. To the east, the south of the Cotswolds come into view.
